About the Journal
Aims and scope
Founded in 1972, Journal of Numerical Analysis and Approximation Theory publishes original papers presenting rigorous analysis, numerical methods with theoretical results (accuracy, convergence, stability), computational examples, development and implementation of numerical algorithms, and the interplay between these aspects for topics such as: differential equations (ordinary and partial), optimization, control theory, inverse problems, nonlinear equations and systems, iterative methods, numerical linear algebra, applied functional analysis, approximation theory, interpolation, mathematical aspects of neural networks and machine learning, mathematical modeling, scientific computing.
Papers dealing with iterative methods in \(\mathbb{R}^n\), accompanied by numerical applications, are preferred to settings in \(\mathbb{R}\) or abstract spaces (with no concrete applications indicated).
Applications and strong connections to the aspects mentioned above are mandatory for papers whose main topics concern, for example, inequalities, fractional equations, fuzziness.
It is recommended that original papers do not exceed 25 pages in length.
Reproducibility: Authors should include sufficient information in the manuscript to enable the results of the manuscript to be reproduced. It is recommended to include an online repository containing relevant software and data.
The journal also publishes survey papers in all areas of Numerical Analysis and Approximation Theory, recommended not to exceed 40 pages.
Journal of Numerical Analysis and Approximation Theory is a single-blind peer-reviewed journal. It considers for publication only papers written in English. There are no publication fees.
Its former name is Revue d'Analyse Numérique et de Théorie de l'Approximation (see the history section). All the papers are freely available at the archives section, either scanned (1972-2000), or latex-pdf (since 2001).
The journal is edited by Tiberiu Popoviciu Institute of Numerical Analysis (Romanian Academy)
and published by the Publishing House of the Romanian Academy (Editura Academiei Române).
Publication frequency
The journal has been continuously publishing 2 issues per year since 1974. The number of pages per issue is set by the Publishing House of the Romanian Academy (Editura Academiei Române) and it is planned to increase twofold starting from 2023.
Editorial oversight
Editors-in-chief decide which editor is best suited to handle a review. Editors-in-chief can reject papers that are clearly inappropriate without assigning them to a review editor. Editors can reject any manuscript that does not conform to the journal’s standards. Editors in charge of submissions are responsible for the final editorial decision (acceptance or rejection).
Peer review process
Submitted manuscripts are first analyzed by the editors-in-chief and then assigned to an editor, provided they are a good fit to the scope of the journal. The editor invites at least two external reviewers with expertise in the addressed topics to write single-blind review reports, in a period of 6-8 weeks typically. The authors are then informed about the editorial decision (acceptance, minor revisions, major revisions or rejection).
For accepted manuscripts, the average time from submission to publication is around 20 weeks.
The entire peer review process is done on the journal's website using the platform and workflow of Open Journal System.
Open Access Policy
Journal of Numerical Analysis and Approximation Theory articles are published Open Access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) 4.0 License that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgment of the work’s authorship and initial publication in this journal.
