Marangoni flow -induced by temperature gradients- against gravity forces

Abstract

In the present work a comparison in made between the authors’ experimental and numerically calculated data obtained in studying the Marangoni-type flow induced by  temperature gradients, in competition with the gravity flow, for a thin liquid pellicle of triangular section found on an inclined plane.

The equation with partial derivatives, appearing in the proposed theoretical model, is integrated by the method of the finite element in the simplex form. The order of magnitude of the calculated rates of flow for the two types of flow through the thin liquid pellicle is close to the one experimentally determined.
