With deep regret we announce that on July 13, 2017, Professor Dr. Eng. Gheorghe Farkas, honorary member of the Institute, has passed away.
He started his career at our Institute, where he worked one decade, and together with eng. Mircea Bocu he has been main author of the electronic computers DACICC-1 (1963) and DACICC-200 (1963), as well as coauthor of the experimental computer MARICA (1959).
He may be regarded as a main pioneer in the foundation of the IT field in Romania. His contributions were acknowledged and he received the National Order of the Knight’s Grave Service, awarded by the president of Romania in 2003.
