Achievements in Mathematics and in IT at Tiberiu Popoviciu Institute of Numerical Analysis

We present some historical aspects regarding pioneering results obtained at our Institute more than half a century ago, illustrated by some excerpts of old documents and photos.

We review some fundamental, consecrated results obtained here in Numerical Analysis and Approximation Theory.

We also present the early history of the Cluj-Napoca “IT industry”, which started at our Institute by the construction of the following computers:

  • MARICA (1959), a relay computer
  • DACICC-1 (1963), the first Romanian computer with transistors, RAM, and mathematical library
  • DACICC-200 (1968), the first Romanian computer with OS and compiler.
